This week's challenge for the Everyday Matters Group is No. 55: "Draw a doorknob, plain or fancy". I gave up, for now, trying to draw my front doorknob. It came out looking very childish so I did a rubbing instead. I would love to do a sketchbook with copious cryptic notes and have it look like it fell out of Indiana Jones pocket! This week's theme at Illustration Friday is "Song". Black gel pen with watercolor. I pleased with it except that the shadow is too busy and dark. I think next time I'll either sketch the shadow and leave it OR add the shadow when I watercolor, not both! It's funny how we look but don't see. I've looked at many a sketch blog yet I can't think how this is usually done. I know there are no rules per se but there are tried and true methods as to what really does look best. I do know this isn't quite it. Click image for a larger view.
